We have mentioned briefly a number of ideas, which emerged from communists mainly from the colonial world in the period immediately after the Russian Revolution. Hopefully we have shown that this reflects the real existence, and potential, of a trend to push the debate into new areas, and eventually expand the horizons of communism to make it become, under the leadership of non-European communists themselves, a revolutionary theory which is truly the property of humanity as a whole. Issues raised in this great debate remain as lively and relevant as they were then: they are a testament to the vitality and relevance of the movement and have never disappeared. But the chance for these issues to have an immediate impact on organised communism, presented by these great debates of the 1920s, was tragically stifled and crushed soon after. This resulted in tremendous setbacks and missed opportunities.
